Insane Instinct
Exhibition by Supicha Sutanthavibul
A very promising and already successful upcoming Thai artist who collaborated with the China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou and was awarded the Nagy Imre award of the Graphic Art Biennial of Szeklerland, with works in Krung Thai Bank Collection as well as other prestigious collections worldwide. Mixing adulthood and childhood, human and animal, toy and flesh, these evocative images are reflections on our despise for the value of life, power and abuse, greed, lust and wealth.
They trigger our attention on our lack of consideration for life, hence represented in her work as toys, and on a long forgotten innocence and the times when as children we were able to experience real empathy towards all forms of beings.
These topics are woven into Supicha's pictures in a whirlwind of mixed techniques mixing black and white, colour, and varnish that draws us back toward our own paradise lost. One wonder whether it is in fact the viewer who is hung on these hooks, helpless to counter his own karma.
Supicha studied at Silpakorn University in Bangkok, has been collaborating with the China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou. Her works can be found in Krung Thai Bank Collection, The Collection of Guanlan International Print Biennial and other notable private collections. She was awarded the Nagy Imre award of the Graphic Art Biennial of Szeklerland.
